Team Information

Asheville Lacrosse started as a non-contact lacrosse league in the summer of 1992.  In the fall of 1993, a  group of guys assembled by Tom Heck (founder of Asheville Lacrosse), met to discuss the formation of a men's full contact club program.  One of the founding club members was Richard Simms, who is still on the current roster today.   About half of the group had experience in the sport, but few of them had gear.  In the spring of 1994, they pooled their money together to buy personal and club gear and held the club's first practice as the Asheville Men's Post-Collegiate Lacrosse Club (aka Asheville Lacrosse).
The Club hosted its first summer tournament in 1995 during the Bele Chere Festival in downtown Asheville.  Three teams participated  (Asheville, Augusta, and Knoxville) at the YMCA on Beaverdam Road.  The tournament was run as a three team tournament for the next several years, when it expanded to a six team format in 1999.  The location was also changed to Fletcher Park in Fletcher, NC.  With its increased success and growth, the club sought out more space and more competition and  in 2007, the Blue Ridge Classic, as it is known now,  moved to the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex in East Asheville inside of Azalea Park.  This is the current location of the tournament.
The Asheville Men's  Lacrosse Club is dedicated to the growth of the great sport of lacrosse.  In the past several years, the club has helped develop youth programs and high school programs for kids wanting to learn and contiue building their skills on the lacrosse field in the Asheville area.  As a club we strive to teach kids about lacrosse and what it takes to succeed through team work.
The Asheville Men's Lacrosse Club practices on Thursday nights starting in Late March and running through July.  Our practice facility is located in downtown Asheville at Memorial Stadium behind McCormick Field.  Map it below.
We normally participate in multiple round robin and two day tournaments throughout the season. Traveling is a huge part of our season, but we do host one of the largest lacrosse tournaments in the Southeast, The Blue Ridge Classic.
